Detroit — Brenda Campbell was jobless and staying at a homeless shelter when she first got involved with the employment support group at St. Michael Parish in Sterling Heights. Not only did Deacon Larry Healy match her up with a parishioner willing to rent her a room, but he also arranged for an interview that landed her a job at the Meijer store in Shelby Township.

54 priests celebrate jubilees for lives of service 
The Church of Detroit honored 54 priests celebrating milestone anniversaries of their ordination to the priesthood at a Jubilee Mass and luncheon Tuesday, May 27, at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

Fellow priests 'couldn't help but love' Fr. Sirianni

Fr. Jasper Sirianni was as kind as he was active — and he was plenty of both during his 62-year priestly ministry, his friends said this week. "He just had a simple quality," said Fr. James Kean, who was an altar server for Fr. Sirianni before getting to know him in the seminary and later as a fellow priest. "He loved his priesthood, loved parish life, too. He would always be in the midst of the comings and goings of parish activities."

Seven men ordained transitional deacons

Detroit — Seven men took a big step toward ordination to the priesthood last Saturday when Auxiliary Bishop John Quinn ordained them to the diaconate in the chapel of Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

St. Conrad's prepares for closing, merging
