Marriage
Marriage is a covenant, "by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life." (Code of Canon Law#1055.1)
Marriage is an on-going sacrament through which a couple grows in holiness in their life together. Marriage is relational. It involves friendship, shared living, creating a home where faith, love and good moral values are nurtured.
"God, who created humans out of love also calls them to love – the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being." (Code of Cannon Law#1604)
The couple brings their love to a public ritual expression in the sacramental celebration and welcomes Christ into their shared life together - the daily routine of life: In good times and bad, in joys and sorrows and in the ups and downs. The couple attempts to give visible expression to God's steadfast love over a whole lifetime. Marriage is a sacrament of the presence of transforming love.
"May the peace of Christ live always in your hearts and in your home. May you have true friends to stand by you, both in joy and in sorrow. May you be ready and willing to help and comfort all who come to you in need. And may the blessings promised to the compassionate be yours in abundance." (Roman Liturgy)
