Along with the ongoing maintenance of the residence halls and classrooms, a new video-conferencing suite of "smart classrooms" will be operational by August 15. This technology will enable us to export select courses from different degree programs to various sites, thereby serving new populations within the Archdiocese of Detroit and, hopefully, people in other Michigan dioceses seeking theological and pastoral training.
In addition, a remarkable liturgy lab will be inaugurated in September—one that incorporates all of the furnishings and liturgical appointments donated by previous generous benefactors of the seminary. The lab is located in an ample room that once served as a chapel and meeting space for the members of Cursillo. A mural painted by Mr. Paul Fourtier, depicting the cultural richness of the particular church of Detroit, as well as the Catholic cultures of the world, perceptively integrates the seminary into the array of buildings and peoples depicted. The painting is a visual exhortation to the New Evangelization, and its location greatly enhances the liturgy lab used for training seminarians and deacon candidates for the celebration of the sacraments and for leading public worship.
The generosity of our faculty these months has been extraordinary as well. They have completed a two-year institutional self-study for renewal of regional and national accreditation, as well as a comprehensive revision of the desired License in Sacred Theology degree program specializing in the New Evangelization. Our faculty have far exceeded their contractual obligations toward the seminary, contributing summer months normally free from such necessary duties. They do so because they recognize the importance of our common mission and their vocation to be pastorally astute theological educators.
Without such generosity of talent, time and treasure, "The Heart" could not meet the challenges set before us by the culture nor by the people of God in Detroit and beyond.
As rector, I thank you for your ongoing generosity. I pray that God "will provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work" (2 Cor 9:8).
Sincerely yours in Christ,
(V. Rev) Fr. Steven Boguslawski, OP Rector/President
