Intro to Theology at Parish Satellites
Taking an Intro to Theology course is a great opportunity for you to learn more about the Catholic faith and even provide the foundation for catechetical certification or a full academic program.
This fall, Sacred Heart Major Seminary is pleased to offer the Intro to Theology course at three parish satellite locations: Our Lady of Lady Counsel, St. Paul on the Lake, and St. Therese of Lisieux.
When is the course held?
Who will be the instructor(s)?
What will the course cover?
The course is an introduction to the study of theology. You will learn about the sources and resources of theology, the major dogmas and doctrines of the Catholic Church, as well as the various methodologies employed in the study of theology. Textbooks used in the course can be viewed online.
What is the cost?
The total cost of the course is $790, which includes the $30 admissions fee and the $50 registration fee. Please note that the cost is the same whether you take the course for credit or you audit the course without doing the homework or taking the tests.
There are many financial aid opportunities! If you are doing any catechetical work (i.e. teaching catechism, RCIA, youth ministry) at a parish, you will be eligible for the Archdiocesan Catechetical Leaders award which provides up to 55% of the tuition cost. If you have more questions on financial aid opportunities, please contact Ms. Kathy Luberski at 313.883.8534 to review these opportunities in greater detail.
How do I sign up for the class?
- Complete an online application. Be sure to hit the Submit button at the end of the form.
- Ask two persons (preferably, one is from your pastor) to complete a Recommendation Form and send it back to us at:
2701 W. Chicago Blvd. Detroit, MI 48206.
- Request official transcripts from every past academic institution you have attended (including colleges and universities where you have taken classes but didn't earn a degree) to be sent directly to Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
- Write a 500-word essay describing a bit of your background and how God has been leading you to study at the seminary. Please email the essay to Tamra Fromm.
- Set up an interview with an Admissions representative. A representative can meet you at the seminary during day or evening hours for your interview. During the interview, you will be asked about your faith journey and the ministries and other volunteer work you have done at the parish and other organizations.
Is there an admissions deadline?
Yes! In order to be admitted and register for the course, we will need all the above materials by August 13, 2010.
